CIWG - Ageing workforce

Ageing Workforce
CIWG & Site Tour!

ISO 9001:2015Many industrialised nations, having built their economies upon a workforce fuelled by one of the largest baby booms in recorded history, are now finding a significant percentage of their workers approaching retirement age.

For some organisations, the problem is manifesting itself in terms of smaller pools from which to source qualified candidates.  For others, a less visible, but no less dangerous problem, is the loss of expertise resulting from mature workers leaving the organization without passing on their knowledge to others.  As greater numbers of "knowledge workers" retire, they take with them insights about managing key customer relationships, handling exceptions to critical processes, and a host of other experiences that can cost organisations significant amounts of time, energy and resources to recreate or replace. As people get older, invariably their health deteriorates, which leads to higher rates of absenteeism and increases safety risks.

Some possible topics of discussion:

  • Understanding your ageing workforce
  • Onset of retirement in greater numbers
  • How do we capture information out of peoples heads
  • Knowledge Management
