buildingWith today's pressures to minimise maintenance costs there will often be a desire to defer and sometimes ignore the requirement for inspection, maintenance and repair of buildings and structures. The consequence of failure of structures can be severe and often there is difficulty in fully understanding structural condition and failure risk. The effect of not carrying out basic maintenance, such as inspections, condition reports and general repairs, usually results in additional costs in the future.

Buildings and structures require different kinds of maintenance than is typical for many maintenance professionals and having a "if you have time can you do..." level of priority.
