Succession PlanningEffective succession management concerns itself with building a series of feeder groups - a talent pool - up and down the entire leadership ladder. The intent is not to develop one candidate for each leadership role, but many candidates ready to fill multiple positions. The underlying philosophy is that all the best talent in the organisation needs to be managed for the greater good of the enterprise.

Of course this means that each of these identified candidates has a development plan. World class organisations have a devlopment plan in place for all of their employees.
