They also provide stability for process controls & to maintain plant efficiency / throughput rates.

Of course in the various industrys leaks from heat exchangers such as tube & shell are a serious issue for process efficiency, temperature controls and specifications. How heat exchangers are monitored, maintained, assembled, disassembled and installed etc is critical to their efficiency and their overall lifespan.
