Lean Rt - applying adult learning principals to operational excellence

SIRF Rt is a member based organisation and we bring people from our member organisations together to learn from each other about "Best Practice". This process has revealed a great deal about what makes some organisations perform well while others struggle. It is apparent that two themes recur again and again in the best organisations.

These themes are;

1. A determination to eliminate "Waste" in all its many forms. Companies use many terms to describe this notion. The quality movement, the Toyota Production System, lean manufacturing and its many clones and Total Productive Manufacturing all use approaches that focus on eliminating "Waste".

2. A determination to eliminate repeating problems or "Defect Elimination". The key ingredient to success in this important area is engaging personnel at all levels, but particularly the front line, in problem solving. Five Whys, Root Cause Analysis and Six Sigma are all examples of approaches used by organisations to help personnel identify and eliminate recurring problems.

SIRF Rt has worked to capture ideas and tools within these two vital aspects of good business management in ways that may be used by members and the general public. This led to the establishment of Lean Rt to deliver competitive manufacturing training providing skilling for frontline leadership and workers and RCA Rt which has delved even further into Root Cause Analysis as a way to eliminate defects.
