The April 29th 2009 IMRt Roundtable meeting was held at Sydney International Airport Terminal in Sydney.
The meeting was attended by 27 people from 13 organisations. The meeting started of with attendee introductions and General Business.

The meeting had two Formal Presentations and three informal presentations and after lunch a Site Tour of the Sydney International Airport Baggage Handling Systems and Electrical Supply and Service Systems
Formal Presentations
Implementing the CSR Way Planned Maintenance System by Rick Terpstra who has the Business Improvement Strategy & Sustainability role for CSR. This was one of the best presentations from the recent Planning4Reliability Forum in Melbourne and gives information on their very successful low cost maintenance improvement process. One of their small sites achieved 55 to 75% OEE/availability improvement with $200k/month cost reductions.
Integrated Product Team - Reducing Shutdown Times and Improving Work Quality - Presented by Gary Wood from Downer EDI Rail. Gary previously worked for Boeing and was involved with Lean improvement projects with Australia’s F18’s. Their team improved the F18 Upgrade turnaround time from 165 days to 80 days. Gary will present the process they used to achieve this and methods for engaging and supporting tradesmen to achieve improvements is work quality and efficiency.
Informal Topics Including Group Discussions
KPI’s for Maintenance and Business Improvement - This session will be lead by Justin Borthwick from OneSteel. The session discussed KPI’s and how they should be used for maintenance. Justin gave feedback from the recent CIWG meeting on KPI’s and also covered some work he has been doing the Business Warehouse software to standardise maintenance KPI's across OneSteel sites. Mobile Equipment Maintenance & Reliability – This session was lead by Mark Burns from Pacific National. Mark hosted the recent Common Interest Workgroup (CIWG) meeting on Mobile equipment. He lead discussions around what it takes to achieve reliability for mobile equipment, which contains some learning for other equipment maintenance areas. (Mobile Equipment March 09)
Electrical & Instrument Maintenance & Reliability – This session gave feedback from the CIWG meeting on Electrical & Instrument Maintenance & Reliability on 7th April. James Pascoe from Sydney Airport lead this discussion and he brought along examples of Sydney Airport's new Arc Flash protective clothing. (Electrical & Instrumentation Equipment - GeneralApril 09)
Sydney Airport Presentations and Site Tour
After lunch we were in the hands of our Sydney Airport IMRt members to get a better view of the details behind what it takes to run a major airport facilities. Greg Welsh the Sydney Airport Baggage Handling System Manager gave a presentation on the complexities behind their baggage handling systems (Download Presentation).
James Pascoe the Sydney Airport Airfield Electrical Services Manager gave a presentation on their High Voltage Systems (Download Presentation).
After the presentations the Greg & James took the group on a site tour that included a behind the scenes look at the baggage handling facilities and a visit to the central services area that including the main substation, standby generators, etc.
