Informal Presentations
This meeting had shorter more informal presentations with small group discussion. This approach is used very successfully by the Knowledge Management Roundtable and word very well in our March Roundtable meeting. The process takes about 20 to 25 minutes with a number of presentation/discussion tables going on at the same time. At the end of the 25 minutes, everyone picks another presentation to join. Great for interaction, learning and sharing ideas.

This discussion group was led by Gary Allen the Maintenance Superintendent Newcrest Mining. In our recent CIWG meeting on Teamwork between Operations and Maintenance, Newcrest was the organisation with the most developed process to encourage teamwork. Gary is an enthusiastic supporter of the need for strong teamwork and how to achieve it. Gary discussed Newcrest’s process for building strong teamwork and what is required to make it happen. View the recent Teamwork CIWG report for more details (Teamwork between Operations and Maintenance).

Sydney Heritage Fleet Rozelle Bay Dockyard Site Tour
The photo on the right is the Sydney Heritage Fleet Building at Wharf 7 Pyrmont with the James Craig docked along side.
The Lunch and afternoon tour was hosted by Jon Simpson the General Manager Sydney Heritage Fleet and Tim Drinkwater the Operations Manager Shipyard & Fleet. Before lunch we were given a tour of the James Craig. This is the pride of their fleet and was built in 1874 and is the only genuine 19th century sailing ship in the southern hemisphere still sailing. It took 25 years of loving attention by the organisations volunteers to achieve this. After lunch aboard the James Craig, those who had selected to go on the site tour walked to Heritage Pontoon and embarked on the Harman (berthed between HMAS Voyager & Pyrmont bridge) and took a Sydney Harbour cruise under the ANZAC bridge to the heritage fleet shipyard at Rozelle. We then broke up into two groups and toured the 1927 Pilot Vessel John Oxley and the workshops. The John Oxley is the current major restoration project by ydney Heritage Fleet and we had an ideal opportunity to view what it takes to fully restore an item that has suffered serious corrosion and deteriorati. We then cruisee back to Pyrmont on the Harman and going to finished at around 3.30pm.
