OHS Mock Court – Making OHS Legislation Personal
In the recent CIWG on Contractor Safety Warren Steele from ANSTO praised highly the ‘OHS Mock Court’ and others who had been involved with it concurred in its ability to change people’s attitudes to safety and how it is managed. Tony Morris, who was integrally involved with developing the approach, gave an explanation of the OHS Mock Court and its objectives. The key focus is getting people to understand the requirment under the law to provide "Safe Systems of Work", the need to use a "heirachy of control" for hazards and the importance of an OH&S Coach. Site Tour ANSTO OPAL Nuclear Reactor
Site Tour for ANSTO's new OPAL Nuclear Reactor was kindly hosted by Matt Richards. Matt is the Maintenance Engineer in Charge of the OPAL Reactor and he took us through a detailed technical explanation of the Reactor as well as an overview of the work he has been managing on setting up the maintenance system for the Reactor. After lunch the group was split in two and were taken around the Neutron Beam Scientific area (see bottom picture below) and well as getting the chance to go up onto the reactor floor level. The Reactor is due to start again in January after an extended outage due to some problems found with the reactor rods during commissioning.
