On-Line Control & Monitoring Systems
From Imrtwiki
On-line control & monitoring systems were discussed. The problem with these systems is, often no one often owns, understands or looks at the data from these systems. These systems may be installed with new equipment or by a technical group and no one locally knows much about it. It may also be due to expertise lost over time. Peter from OneSteel made the point that for these types of systems an individual has to be made responsible, ensure they fully take ownership, ensure training is adequate and they need to be held accountable for the successful use of the system.
An example was given by Chris from Hunter Water with an older pump station with three Sync Motors. A startup control tuning issue developed with no one involved with the drives having the knowledge to recognize and identify the problem. Significant damage was done before the problems was fully recognized, understood and fixed.
