Keep Pump Gland Drain Holes Clear
Double suction pumps have gland water wells to redirect excess gland water. The drain holes in wells often plug due to excessive grease or corrosion allowing the damming of gland water and the filling of the well. When the water fills high enough to contact the shaft it follows the shaft into the bearing housing contaminating the lubrication.
During pump inspections you should make a habit of checking and keeping the drain holes clear of debris.
