THE PRESENTERS AND THEIR PRESENTATIONS
First Presentation View Sue's Presentation: Media:TRUenergy_PS_Alliance_Presentation.pdf Sue Tulau is currently the Reliability Engineer for TRUenergy Yallourn’s Power Station Alliance/Asset Team, and has been for the past 6 years.
Sue has been involved in Power Station Maintenance for the past 26 years, predominantly in the area of Condition Monitoring, and led Yallourn’s Condition Monitoring Team from 1990 to 2001, during which time the Team won the 1999 International Reliability Based Maintenance excellence award.
With considerable change at Yallourn over the past 8 years including privatisation, further sell off & the setup of a Maintenance Alliance at the Power Station, Sue has been involved in implementing and consolidating a wide range of Reliability Based Maintenance principles and practices including the introduction of a Production based Root Cause Analysis program and co-ordinating the AMEA benchmarking process in 2006 to assist in supporting ongoing continuous improvement across the Power Station site, in working on towards maintenance excellence. Sue’s interests include gardening, trekking and travelling the world, when time & work permits.
Second Presentation
Andrew Paffett is the Deputy Plant Manager at Advertiser Newspaper’s print plant at Mile End. Andrew has an Electrical background and has 27 years experience in production maintenance and production management. Andrew is currently performing the role of Project Manager on several projects within his organisation. Apart from Trade qualifications, Andrew has a Diploma (AQF V) in Printing and Graphic Arts Management and is currently studying for a Cert IV in Project Management.
Since 1999, and continuing on past today, all divisions of News Ltd have a set of contingency plans. These are stored in hard copy locally and remotely for ready access, as well as being stored electronically on their own and central server. These plans outline who does what and contacts whom when a contingency which would effect the business occurs.
Third Presentation
Troy Semmler has 11 years experience in the power industry ranging from an original operations team member to his current role as Asset Services Manager for the Osborne Cogeneration Power Station. With such a heavy focus on water conservation, Troy believes that all industrial facilities have the capacity to reduce their water consumption.
Troy’s presentation explains how simple yet effective system modifications and additions enabled the Osborne Cogeneration Power Station to reduce its potable water consumption by around 99%. The water recovery system at Osborne has enabled the station to operate normally whilst using similar volumes of water as an average sized family.
Fourth Presentation Bryce Routley has a water chemistry background, having worked at the Australian Water Quality Laboratories for 16 years then made the transition into industrial wastewater treatment as a Trade Waste Inspector in SA Water. In this role, he became an EPA Authorised Officer to manage stormwater pollution which prepared him for his next role – managing stormwater and wastewater issues in the Mt Lofty Ranges Watershed – Adelaide’s water supply area. The change to the EPA included the licensing of SA Water and Council operated wastewater treatment plants as well as various enforcement roles in stormwater pollution. After a short stint writing a stormwater Code of Practice, Bryce took up his current role as an educator of businesses – putting aside his Authorised Officer ID, to teach them how to go beyond compliance and to “do more with less”. His current work with Ecomapping endeavours to engage businesses in documenting their environmental impacts and creating an environmental action plan which can be used as evidence of their duty of care as well as make efficiency improvements.
Bryce’s presentation will cover: Information session (20 mins) Introduction Water and Climate Change - what's happening! How will it affect your business?
- scarity of raw materials and water - poorer quality water - carbon footprint - increased price of water, energy, fuel and waste disposal - logistics / transport costs - greening of the customer - accountability - food miles / carbon - change in work culture - loss of knowledge
What can you do about it? - some of the options
Interactive session: - facilatation session (20 mins) -What do you do well? Innovations - What are the threats to your operations?
Brainstorm session on ways to overcome the threats
-Conclusion and what to do next?
