Rookie Mistakes in Vibration Analysis
Every Vibration Analyst (self included) has personally experienced the “Rookie Mistake”. You don’t even need to be a rookie to make these blunders.
- Collecting data on a machine that is NOT operating.
- Mis-reading a Strobe Light when determining 1x RPM
- Mistaking 2x Line Frequency for 2x RPM
- Setting Motor FMAX too low to detect RBPF
- Misinterpreting GMF when Gear Tooth Counts are unknown.
- Over Lubricating a Rolling Element Bearing
- NOT collecting Multi-directional measurements on REB’s
All of these faux paus are not “end of the world” type events, however they can make the vibration analyst look a little silly to his peers. A mental check list to tick off the “easy” stuff first can save time and ensure yourself that things are not missed.
