Creating a Culture of Knowledge Sharing CIWG on Change Management April 2 - 1.30 till 4.30

This followed on from our discussions at the last KMRt meeting where a vast majority of members agreed that they would like to have a CIWG to explore the whole “practical change management” issue in more detail.

We did a “Reverse Brainstorm” [3] (see one example of how that can work)

The purpose of this approach was to identify all of the areas that we need to address and then to identify practical solutions to address them.

Part of that process was using the KM method cards as well as other tools that many of us may have used in change management situations that we have dealt with. This included things like;

  • • the 6 Hats that we briefly went through with Frank
  • • the simple communication tools and models
  • • the johari window
  • • simple problem solving tools
  • • decision making tools

Make sure you check with your collegues who were at the meeting (or not there) to make sure we get the right people in the room. This may require another meeting prior to the next KMRt depending on what we are trying to achieve.

The Outcomes are located on the Change Management Page

We will report back to the KMRt at the next meeting late May with our results.

Common Interest Workgroup (CIWG) Activities

Common Interest WorkGroup Activities for 2009

At the May meeting of the KMRt we looked at What the CIWGS wanted to work on this year.

Common Interest WorkGroup Activities for 2008 What the CIWGS wanted to work on Tips for hosting a CIWG

The Common Interest Working Groups (CIWG) are working in the following broad streams;

  • - International Guru David Gurteen came and conducted a Master Class on Knowledge Cafe's with us
  • - Our next session will do more specific work around which tools to identify experience and expertise within your organisation

  • - next session for this group is to revisit the KMRt competencies question identified previously
  • - A site visit to a newly developed and launched Confluence Wiki to share learnings

  • The Workforce Planning group have developed a great front end WFP model that links to the many resources that have been shared with us around analysis, strategy development and implementation alternatives. The CIWG Reflections and where to from here details their lastest discussions. In short they will design a way to demonstrate/communicate/or enable the experience of some of the content to other members of the KMRt. They also will be completing the adaption of the content and expanding into stakeholder engagement/eductation.
  • - Recent session on the Talent Management structure and application for Nab
  • - looking to explore using Social Network Analysis to sanity check any organisational downsizing decisions

  • The Knowledge Exiting and keeping Technical knowledge Group focussed on how to retain organisational memory before all those Baby Boomers or Gen Y's leave the organisation. The CIWG Reflections and where to from here page details their lastest discussions. They agreed to do more work on exploring and understanding the techniques and tools made available by the WIKI as well as the WIKI itself. Then exploring what it means to work on the organisational culture as a whole rather than just small pockets, small isolated projects. (just a small thing really :-)

this was translated into "we need a day to rethink, train on the WIKI, explore the beginnings of the Culture journey.

Our Wiki discussion forum is online for all members. To have access to the collective experience of the group all the members of the KMRt are invited into the forum by the facilitator. Let me take this opportunity to invite you to a training session where we can take a short time 15 - 30 minutes for an overview of the relevant content of this Wiki as well as some basic steps that will assist you in your own exploration and or contribution of the tool.

To help you understand please take a couple of minutes to view this video which explains the what and the how of a wiki very simply. [5]

KMRt Wiki is a web-based, collaborative content development and storage space used by the members of the KMRt. The content stored here provides links to guide the user to related pages with additional information.

A Wiki is written collaboratively by members of a community or team that is located in the same building or geographically separated. Because of the web-based nature the contributors are often located all around the world as is the case with the most famous Wiki, Wikipedia [6].

The greatest strength of a Wiki is that it is open to anyone in a given community. This gives it the potential to have a large contributor base, articles are written by consensus and links are made to relevant content be it a web site [7], podcast [8], or even an article( Articles of Interest ) or image uploaded onto the wiki itself.

To log in go to the top right hand corner of the page where it says login/create acct and click on that. If you do not have an account created please contact me on michelle@sirfrt.com.au.

Every page has a link that says "edit", which lets you edit the page you are looking at. It is a Wiki's most basic feature, and allows you to make contributions or corrections and add facts to articles.

To explore using the Wiki Go to this page and click the "edit" tab at the top of the page. This will open an edit window. Add something fun and interesting or "Hello world!" then save it and see what you have done!
